Inspiration and Process

I am fascinated by ancient history and archaeology, which I studied for a while, and find that this interest has continually inspired my work.

Most recent pieces: Island, Riches, Promise and Kingdom (II ), I call Landscape 'slices'. They combine imagery that represents the layers beneath the surface with suggestions of the natural and man made landscape above.

I am drawn to materials from many sources for their surface quality, shape or hue. I also make my own ceramic pieces and experiment with 'grout' mixes and paint finishes.

I have developed a making process where from the initial inspiration I go through a process of creating and undoing that means I never know how long a piece of work is going to take to complete.
