Inspiration and Process

Landscape Series (Bilston Craft Gallery 2007)

An interest in ancient history, archaeology and the natural landscape inspires my work.

Using materials from many sources for their surface quality, shape or hue, I often use found objects as my starting point. I also make ceramic elements and experiment with grout mixes and finishes.

I am often drawn to working to a tall slim format suggestive of a 'slice' of the landscape as though glimpsed through a viewfinder; these pieces combine imagery that represents the unseen layers beneath the surface with suggestions of the natural and man made landscape above.
